Yangon

Sea of lights

You arrive in Myanmar and check in at the charming Belmond Governor’s Residence. Immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda in the late afternoon, the country’s most important temple. At sunset, a beautiful sight unfolds as hundreds of oil lamps are lit as a spiritual ceremony gets underway in a magnificent sea of ​​lights

Yangon

Monastery visit & road tripping in an old Chevy bus

Today’s focus is on meditation and spirituality. Allow the peaceful environs of the Mahasi monastery to inspire you and take a lesson or two from the monks on meditational techniques and understand the true meaning of meditation.

Explore the city on an old Chevrolet bus built 1945 and take in the sights and smells of this exciting city and finish it off with high tea in the elegant ‘The Strand Hotel’.

Day 3


Bagan

Mandalay bound

After a leisurely breakfast, fly to Bagan and board the luxurious river cruise ship ‘Sanctuary Ananda’ to Mandalay where you will be for the next four days. Witness a magical sunset over the boat and enjoy your first candlelight dinner aboard with stunning views over sparkling Bagan.

Day 4


Bagan – Sagaing

Upstream

Take a stroll through the bustling local markets where farmers sell fresh produce; be witness to important Buddhist relics found in the beautiful Shwezigon Pagoda. As the boat heads upstream towards Sagaing, soak in the unfurling splendid views of passing Pagodas, hills and villages. One can simply not travel anymore peacefully.

Day 5


Sagaing - Mandalay

Time travel

For those interested, the famous chef on board the Sanctuary Ananda would be delighted to join you in creating an extraordinary culinary experience. Spend the afternoon roaming the pagodas of Sagaing where more than 6,000 monks and nuns live in 554 monasteries. Take an honest and insightful peek into the lives of the spiritual. The absolute highlight is the gorgeous sunset over the U – Bein Bridge, a teak footbridge that stretches over the Taungthaman Lake. When the sun dips over, the silhouettes of the monks and the villagers passing by is a sight one can never forget.

Mandalay

The world's biggest book

Sanctuary Ananda heads for its destination and arrives in Mandalay shortly after breakfast. Highlights today are the Mahamuni and the Kuthodaw Pagodas; here is a chance to see the "largest book in the world" - 729 marble tablets bearing the teachings of the Buddha. The elaborate wood carvings in the teak-built monastery are a spectacular sight.

Day 7


Mandalay – Heho – Inle Lake

Floating gardens

Head out today via a domestic flight to Heho and then onto the beautiful Inle Lake. This lake is home to the Intha people, an ethnic group who dwell around it on stilt houses and number about 70.000. Share a typical traditional meal with your hosts and breathe in the calm atmosphere of the lake in the evening.

Trade and commerce

The morning market which brings together villagers from far flung areas to trade is a fascinating experience. Head further south of the lake, to a still largely untouched area by tourism and enjoy the idyllic surroundings. Sagar is home to impressive stupas from the 16th century, in Thaya Gone is an opportunity to watch the distillation of the famed rice wine and in Sae Khaun is a chance to see the pottery industry.

Inle Lake

Ballooning over the lake

Your day begins early to the chirping of songbirds as you hop onto a hot air balloon to catch the sunrise in style. Fly over the beautiful landscape around the lake; observe the little specks on the water - of fishermen preparing the day’s catch and the unmistakable floating gardens – an absolutely fantastic experience! The rest of the day can be enjoyed at your luxury hotel

Day 10


Heho – Kawthaung – Wa Ale Island

Paradise is calling

After breakfast, transfer to Heho airport. They fly to Kawthaung via Yangon, the gateway to the paradisiacal Myeik archipelago comprising over 800 islands with beautiful sparkling lagoons and a fascinating underwater life. It takes a two-hour speedboat ride before you arrive at the dream resort of Wa Ale Island.
